Statement of Faith
Agape Recovery is an organization grounded in the Reformed faith and guided by the confessions known as the Three Forms of Unity and the Westminster Standards.

The Belgic Confession
The Heidelberg Catechism
The Canons of Dort
Westminster Standards

These confessional documents shape the beliefs and practices that direct our mission, programs and expectations for all who participant in Agape’s services because they are a faithful summary of the Bible.

Since these confessional documents are a faithful summary of the Bible’s teaching, they shape the beliefs and practices that direct our mission, programs, and expectations for all who participate in Agape’s services.

1. We affirm that the Holy Scriptures, as originally given by God, are divinely inspired, fully trustworthy, and without error, serving as the ultimate authority for faith and practice (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).

2. There is one eternal God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19). Jesus Christ, the Son, is God revealed in human form.

3. We believe that God created the heavens and the earth out of nothing but his almighty Word and that he upholds and governs them and all that is in them by that same powerful Word (Genesis 1 and 2; Psalm 33:6, Psalm 104:27-30; Matthew 6:30; Hebrew 1:3).

4. We believe in Jesus Christ’s virgin birth, sinless life, divine works, suffering, substitutionary death on the cross, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, ongoing intercessory role seated at God’s right hand, and future return in power and glory (Hebrews 7:27; 1 Peter 1:20-21; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Ephesians 1:20; 1 Thess 4:14-17).

5. Salvation is available only through faith in Jesus Christ and the merits of his shed blood for the complete forgiveness of sins. This salvation brings spiritual renewal through the work of the Holy Spirit who empowers believers to live holy lives, to share the gospel, and to serve Christ faithfully (Ephesians 2:8–9; Titus 3:5; John 14:16–17; John 14:25–26).

6. We believe that on the day of Christ’s return there will be a resurrection of all the dead and that God will judge all people, both the living and the dead, according to his perfect justice whereupon each person will enter his/her final destiny, either eternal life with God or eternal death in the lake of fire (Acts 24:15; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Matthew 25:31–46; Revelation 20:11–15).

7. We believe that God designed marriage as an exclusive, covenantal union between one man and one woman, and that all sexual relationships are to be reserved for and expressed within that biblical framework (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4–6; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 6:18–20).

8. We believe that our physicality, male and female, and our sexuality are good gifts of God’s creation. As such, we do not affirm the resolution of the tension between one’s biological sex and one’s experience of gender by the adoption of a gender identity or expression discordant with one’s birth sex (Genesis 1:27; Psalm 139:13–16).
